How to choose
In Germany the service is Farbberatung or Farbtypberatung, and the analyst is a Farbberaterin or Stilberaterin. The classic four season method is still widespread, but many studios now work with twelve or sixteen types, and some describe their method in detail on their site.
Check whether the price includes VAT (MwSt.) and a Farbpass to take shopping, and whether make up colours are part of the session. Some studios offer the Farbberatung on its own and as part of a longer Stilberatung, so compare like with like. A session with a friend is often possible and makes the long draping more fun. Ask whether the Farbberaterin explains the result in writing or with photos, which helps when you are standing in a shop months later.

How do I prepare for a Farbberatung in Germany?
Come without make up, or with make up you can remove there, and wear a neutral top. Do not dye your hair just before. Studios list the length of the Farbberatung on their booking page, and it is rarely short.
What is the difference between 12 seasons and 16 seasons?
Both split the four classic seasons into smaller groups by how warm or cool, light or deep and clear or soft your colouring is. Sixteen seasons adds a few in between groups, which mainly helps people who sit on a border. Among analysts in Germany who state a system, 12 types is the most common.
