How AI colour analysis works

A colour analyst judges four things about you: whether your skin leans warm or cool, how deep your hair is, what colour your eyes are, and how much contrast there is between the three. The model reads the same four from your photo and places you in one of the twelve seasons.

What it reads

  • Undertone. Whether your skin is golden, pink or neutral underneath a tan or a blusher.
  • Hair. How deep it is, and whether the roots read warm or cool even if the lengths are dyed.
  • Eyes. The colour and the pattern in the iris, which often settles a close call.
  • Contrast. How far apart your hair, skin and eyes are, which separates the light seasons from the deep ones.

When it will not answer

It refuses rather than guesses when the photo cannot carry a reading: no face, several faces, too little light, a strong colour cast, a filter, or makeup heavy enough to hide your undertone. A wrong season gets acted on. A refusal costs you one retake.

The twelve seasons

Four families, each split three ways by how light, how warm and how clear your colouring is. The test lands you in one of these twelve, and each has its own palette.

AI or comparing colours yourself

The AI reading takes seconds and is right most of the time. Comparing colours against your own face takes a few minutes and is more certain, because you are judging your real skin in your real light rather than a photograph of it. Both start from the same photo, so you can do one and then the other.
